Editor’s Foreword

The December 2025 issue of FACCI Journal features a wide range of scholarly works that collectively advance the discourse of criminology, criminal justice, public safety, and allied disciplines. This issue exemplifies the journal’s continuing commitment to rigorous research that tackles the challenges of our time, and that is informed by ethical practice, community engagement and evidence-based policy making.

The articles published in this issue address key topics such as gender and leadership in correctional institutions, public service motivation of criminology students, emotional regulation and grit among police officers, human rights–based policing, community-oriented policing initiatives, violence against women and children, fire safety governance, security training, and tourism protection. Together, these studies highlight the changing and multidimensional nature of public safety work in the Philippines and elsewhere.

Several contributions foreground lived experiences – be it of female jail wardens, police officers, security professionals, or community members – to highlight the human dimension of law enforcement and correctional practice. Some have applied quantitative and mixed method approaches to evaluate motivation, compliance, capability, and program effectiveness, providing practical insights for institutional improvement, training enhancement, and policy reform. The authors show scholarly rigor and a clear commitment to socially responsive research across the methodologies.

This issue also underscores the importance of rights-based, community-centered and gender-responsive approaches to justice and security. Overall, the studies highlight the need for continued institutional support, ongoing professional training, inter-agency collaboration and community engagement to build trust, accountability and resilience in public safety institutions.

The Editorial Board would like to sincerely thank all the authors, reviewers and contributors who have made this issue possible. We hope this volume will be a useful resource for researchers, educators, practitioners and policymakers and will stimulate further inquiry and innovation in the pursuit of justice, safety and human dignity.
